I know, I know... pdfs are dark data.
But, I think that a lot of people will still be using pdfs for years to come. There is something compelling about having a 'drawing' to work from and focus on.
Looking at this short vid on creating assembly drawings from a 3d model, I can't help thinking that it would be useful to be able to extract the non-graphic business info directly from the iTwin. BOMs are common bread and butter items... and it would be far easier and cheaper not to have to load up the 3d model to extract the data.
The user would generate a 'print' using the usual printing tools from the browser or use Mstn if drawing title block/frames are required.
Pdfs can already include structured data as forms or tables that can be extracted. But not very well.
It would be great to be able to 'print' an .imodel that packages all the Item Type info.
Using Bentley's free View app, the user could then open the flattened 3d info and select the element then get access to the nongraphic info or generate a report using the embeded schema / formating info?
