The RAM Connection Help needs to explain the dimension for eb, which is for the "Load eccentricity to bolt group".
RAM users reference Helps to understand and confirm how input data is processed in the program for shear tab connections of beam to columns, either web or flanges. Lacking confirmation, misunderstandings can happen.
The specific problem is further detailed, herein:
1. The HELP discussion needs a description for "eb, Load eccentricity to bolt group".
2. An additional discussion would also be helpful to elaborate on high RAM uses eb.
a. At present, eb only appears when "Manual" is selected from "Bolt eccentricity calculation method". This selection allows for more than one column of bolts. Otherwise, RAM assumes that just one column of bolts is all that is desired.
b. eb appears to be used in computing the moment used in the design of the shear tab about the connecting bolt pattern. This is not stated in the Helps.
3. An additional discussion would also be helpful to elaborate on the use of "Plate Type" as it is used to select standard or extended. Extended enables more than one column of bolts, nc.
a. At present, it appears that an e value is computed given the "extended" paramter.
b. The Help suggests that the "load eccentricity for the bolts group" is determined by use of the "Manual" method, as noted above. A review of the equations appears otherwise.
c. The Help makes little or no distiction between the "Extended, Plate Type" or "Manual, Bolt eccentricity..." for invoking extended plates with multiple columns
4. Please provide updates to the Helps to show the eb dimension and to provide comprehensive explanation for its use.
Thanks.
