Existing terrain to show up in profile and cross section views all the time

The existing terrain or any other terrain surface covers up alot of the plan view when turned on. But it has to be displayed in view it in profile or cross section view. would it be possible to have it always displayed in the profile and cross section view regardless if it was displayed.
